53chev.jpg (11674 bytes) The year was 1953 and Chevrolet was enjoying a banner year in car sales. By the time the 1954s were released, more than 1,300,000 '53s were sold. These included the 210s,  the 150s, the Bel Airs and the wagon lines. The good news for Chevrolet was that they outsold their nearest competitor by more that 200,000 units. As I stated earlier station wagons were an important part of the Chevy line for 1953. The top of the line wagon that year was the 210 Townsman wagon. Below you can see a couple of example of the wagons available during these years.

These cars were powered by the reliable Blue Flame six cylinder engine and more than 400,000 cars that year were sold with Powerglide automatic transmissions.

The 1954 design was done with the same basic body style of the '53s. The design studio came up with some trim pieces that gave the '54 "a more substantial appearance". The model lineup was similar to the '53s with one noticeable addition to the wagon line in 1954... the Beauville 4 door wagon (shown above).  This wagon was offered with the Bel Air interior and exterior trim options.
