In 1955 Corvette was in its second full production year. The styling hadn't changed that much from 1954 and sales were still a painful
subject with GM. A pivotal year in Corvette's history was just around

the corner. 1956 is considered by many a milestone year for the Corvette. Although the chassis and body remained essentially the same, the styling was notably refined with new front fenders, redesigned bumpers and restyled rear fenders.

The reworked '56 has headlamps set flush in forward thrusting fenders and the taillights nestled neatly into recesses in the gently rounded rear

fenders. Another notable design addition to the sides of the  '56 were the 56corvette.jpeg (11108 bytes)
"coves" that were offered in contrasting colors. The primary body colors for 1956 corvettes were onyx black, venetian red, Aztec copper, polo white, cascade green and Arctic blue. With the red, green or copper body color the coves were normally painted beige; while the black, blue and white primary colors were offered with silver coves. The two tone paint was probably the most popular option available. Total production for 1956 corvettes was 3,467 units.

1957 brought no new dramatic changes to the body or interior styles of the Corvette. The sport-car buying public were offered for the first time
two fuel-injected versions of the 283-cid engine. One rated at 250 hp. and the other at

283 hp. Only 240 Corvettes were produced with the fuel injection option during the '57 production run, partly because this was  a pricey  $481. option, since the car's base price was $3,465. Total Corvette production for 1957 was 6,339 units.
