ACCESSORIES Spotlighting the new line are two unprecedented features - a factory installed
all-weather air conditioning system and a factory option four barrel carburetor and dual
exhaust system. Both accessories are installed at the factory by Chevrolet craftsmen. Home-Like Conveniences "Every accessory has been designed to become an integral part
of the automobile and complement the beauty of the 1955 Chevrolet passenger cars,"
W.E. Fish, Chevrolet general sales manager pointed out. "We have designed accessories
the customer is familiar with in his home - accessories that will add to the pleasure of
owning a new car. Naturally the vast facilities and volume production of Chevrolet's own
plants assure the customer the finest accessories at the lowest costs." For that look of distinction, Chevrolet engineers have designed an exclusive sports car wheel carrier unit, sturdy, rattle free and easy to operate. A hand lever, located between the trunk lid and the rear wheel carrier, drops the wheel carrier to horizontal position for easy access to the trunk. Added smartness and luxury appearance is possible with a choice of wire wheels, wheel trim rings of highly polished stainless steel or wheel discs, all of new designs. Rain-drop Convertible Tops The latest development in electronics is reflected in the automatic top raiser being offered to convertible owners this year. This new accessory is a silent watchman that automatically raises the top at the first drop of rain. It's the same science of electronics responsible for new highs in radio performance with the "signal seeking radio." This set utilizes the most advanced type of superheterodyne circuit for long range performance. This radio - at the touch of a bar automatically tunes in other stations in sequence for the best reception in any locality. Two other sets, the custom de luxe radio with push button tuning and the manual tuning custom radio, offer the owner excellent selectivity and tone quality. The radio antenna for 1955 cars is styled to mount in the right front fender, in a special steel housing beneath the fender, allowing the antenna to be telescoped to within a few inches of the fender top. New Heater for "High Air"
Ventilation Two new heaters, the de luxe heater and defroster and the custom
recirculating heater and defroster, have been redesigned to complement the new "High
Air" ventilation system of the 1955 Chevrolet. New defroster vents keep the panoramic
windshield clear of steam and ice and the de luxe heater has a newly designed illuminated
control panel that makes heat and air control a simple manual operation. The High Air system is based on an arch-shaped plenum chamber that channels fresh air from a slotted cowl vent. Drainage from the chamber prevents any moisture from reaching passengers, even in rainiest weather. A brand new safetylight and mirror, has been relocated and will be mounted through the left windshield pillar. The mirror has been recessed into the lamp head for protection from the weather. Other lighting aids include courtesy lights, for increased convenience and safety when passengers enter a darkened car, an underhood lamp with a mercury switch that turns on the light when the hood is raised, a portable spotlight, an electric brake signal light to prevent wear on parking brake linings with the brake on and a luggage compartment lamp. Among the redesigned accessories offering "outside" protection and beauty are new grille safety bumpers, front fender guards, fender shields, gasoline tank filler guard, body sill moldings, door edge guards, door handle shields and rear fender guards. The new model design required restyling of the popular ventshades, outside sun visor and the light-green, optically true plexiglass glareshades. The traffic light viewer, an optically clear prism, has a new mounting. The fuse and wiring junction block, an
accessory favorite because it completely eliminates the necessity of cutting or splicing
wires or the overloading of the ignition or light switch terminals, has been changed to
accommodate the 12 volt battery system in both the V8 and the six-cylinder new Chevrolets. Sapphire-Movement Electric Clock Designed for comfort and convenience are: a new four-head contour shaver which operates from either the 12 volt car battery (plugs into the cigarette lighter) or 110-volt home circuit; an electric, sapphire movement electric clock for dependable service, and a smart new tissue dispenser for mounting under the instrument panel and a locking gas tank cap for safeguarding against gasoline theft. Brand new in the seat cover line is the "Glamour Glide Cushion Protector," a nylon-dacron fabric, available in six colors, which covers only the cushions and is easily installed without tools. The protectors can be removed, washed, dried and replaced in a matter of minutes. Three other types of conventional seat covers in nylon, plastic and fiber in exclusive patterns are available for every taste. |
